Bristol weather: Charts show 300-mile wide snow band heading to South West

Weather charts show a huge band of snow working its way across the South West.

Weather mapping service WX Charts show a band of snow more than 300 miles wide working its way across the South West including Bristol, Gloucester and Somerset.

The white stuff looks set to arrive late on Tuesday, February 9 leading into a very snowy Wednesday, February 10.

Charts predict we're in for at least 1 cm of snow overnight, so we could be waking up to a wintry scene.

All forecasts are subject to change, and we'll update the details as we know more.

Alongside WX charts, The Met Office and the BBC is predicting snow in Somerset the same day.

There is also a chance of snow this weekend in Somerset and Bristol on Sunday.

The band of snow works its way right over the South West and even into France.

It appears to be in place from midnight Wednesday, February 10 until 6am.

The Met Office has also said there is "potential for widespread" snow across areas in the South East where clouds and precipitation bump into cold air.

They also said ice and "other wintry hazards" remain a possibility.

In their long-range weather forecast, they say: "Any organised areas of cloud and precipitation arriving from the southwest will not progress very far into the country as a result of the high pressure.

"However, they can bring the potential for widespread snow across areas where they bump into cold air.

"Patches of ice and other disruptive wintry hazards remain a possibility for all areas."

The Met Office long-range forecast also says that snow showers are possible across the country.

It says: "An area of high pressure looks to build to the north, and it will likely feel cold or very cold, especially in brisk easterly winds.

"Snow showers are possible across the country during the early part of the period, but most widespread and heaviest for northeastern areas.

"Drier weather to follow, with widespread overnight frosts, although wintry showers can still feed in from the east coast."

Deeper into Somerset, The BBC is predicting snow in areas including in Yeovil, Taunton, Bath, Wells and Frome on Wednesday, February 10.
