Bristol traffic and supermarket queues building as Easter Monday sizzles away

Supermarkets in Bristol are experiencing one of their busiest Easter Monday afternoons on record as thousands of people flock to the stores.

Most people are stocking up to wring out the last bit of Bank Holiday fun before the return to work on Tuesday after one of the warmest and sunniest Easter weekends in recent memory.

This was the scene at Asda in Bedminster just a short while ago, at around 3pm, as queues stretched back down the aisles.

And the roads are also getting busier, with long delays to traffic getting in and out of Tesco in Eastville, reported.

Many people are stocking up on picnic and barbecue supplies as temperatures soar to around 25 degrees C.

And the parks of the city are packed, with people enjoying the sunshine.

Tuesday will be slightly cooler, with temperatures dropping slightly to 22 degrees C, but on Wednesday there will be a sharp drop in temperature, with highs of just 13 or 14 deg C, and rain predicted for the next week.

So with the Easter Monday sunshine the last we'll see for a while, people are packing the stores to get the stuff they need to get the most out of it.

"It is pretty crazy in Asda in Bedminster right now," one shopper.

"It's normally fairly busy, but this seemed worse. One bloke in front of me was buying a bakery's worth of bread and all the burgers there was, and another fella had to have help getting a huge barbecue in his car. I did not even dare go down the cider aisle."
