Bristol tech recruitment firm reports record growth as demand rises for expertise during pandemic

A Bristol recruitment company that offers staffing solutions to global technology companies has announced a record year of growth after a rise in demand for its expertise in the sector since the start of the pandemic.

Paratus People, based in Canningford House on Victoria Street in Redcliffe, reported a 125% rise in income for 2020, with revenue up from £2m to £7m in the last four years.

The business, which also has offices in Amsterdam and Brussels, saw team growth in the last 12 months up by 40% and it is now set to expand its operations to Silicon Valley in the US, in order to take advantage of the growing need for tech experts.

Paratus People, which counts telecoms giant Liberty Global, creative industries firm Technicolor, media company Sky Deutschland among its clients, will also launch a dedicated German division this year.

Tom White, founder and managing director of Paratus People, said “While 2020 and the pandemic sent shockwaves around the world, we saw in our area of the sector that people hunkered down and consolidated what they were doing.

"The result a year on is an explosion in innovation and R&D projects coming to the market – all requiring technical and engineering expertise alongside the need for tech sector support staff.

“We have also seen a boom in the need for video and adaptive Wi-Fi solutions, caused by the large numbers of people now working from home.”

Within the tech sector Paratus People specialises in video technology and the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT), which refers to the interconnection via the internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.

Mr White said: “The world is rapidly opening back up again. We are now seeing a surge in certain areas of technology which has allowed us to grow the business.

“We had a record year last year which enabled us to create many new jobs in our hometown of Bristol and further afield.

“This year looks set to be another strong year and we’re very focused on providing world-leading talent consultancy to our clients.”
