Bristol suffers another coronavirus death as another 478 cases are found across the region

Another person has died from coronavirus in Bristol as hundreds of new cases are discovered.

The latest death means that a total of 508 people have died from the virus in the city, and brings the total number of deaths to 1,430 across the wider Bristol region.

Official figures, published by Public Health England today (September 6) also revealed that 478 new coronavirus cases had been reported across the region.

Of the new cases, 184 were found in Bristol, bringing the city's total to 56,402 since the start of the pandemic.

South Gloucestershire recorded a further 111 cases of the virus, North Somerset 96, while Bath and North East Somerset discovered another 87.

Today's update means there have now been 119,344 cases of the virus in the region since the start of the pandemic.

The Government said a further 45 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 133,274.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 157,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 41,192 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to September 5 shows that of the 91,725,196 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,270,113 were first doses, a rise of 21,795 on the previous day.

Some 43,455,083 were second doses, an increase of 73,193.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 56,402 (+184)

  • North Somerset - 18,048 (+96)

  • South Gloucestershire - 28,442 (+111)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 16,452 (+87)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 508 (+1)

  • North Somerset - 323 (-)

  • South Gloucestershire - 366 (-)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 233 (-)
