Bristol street welcomes first newborn after six neighbours fall pregnant during 'lockdown baby boom'

Neighbours living along the same Bristol street have welcomed the first of six babies due to be born this year.

Clouds Hill Avenue in St George has experienced a lockdown baby boom, with six women on the same side of the road all falling pregnant within a few months of each other.

Jenni Parkinson and partner Ric Ventura celebrated the arrival of the first of the six, after she gave birth to her second child, Summer, yesterday (February 4).

The 37-year-old, who runs a community music organisation, said: "We're all friends so we just kind of announced them to each other one-by-one, and then suddenly there was a whole group of us.

"All the announcements came within a couple of weeks of each other.

"I think it’s probably down to a combination of things - the place we live is the perfect place for having a family."

Their street is in an enviable position bordering one side of St George Park, lined with pretty Victorian terraces and home to many young sociable families.

Jenni said: "People move here because they're thinking of having one or they realise it would be a great place to start one after moving in.

"I don't know if the lockdown encouraged it or not, but I think everyone needs some hope in their lives right now."

She said she was hoping that she would be able to see her neighbours more by the summer, adding: "Summers in the park with lots of children will be really lovely.

'Unique' sense of community

"Some of us have other children and were pregnant together the first time round, so before lockdown we'd like swap kids for playdates.

"There were quite a lot of arrangements like that on this one street, and I think it's totally unique in that way."

The babies are all due between now and late summer.

Ailie Tam, 36, is due to give birth to her second child in August with her husband Ben.

The yoga teacher has been holding virtual yoga classes on Zoom for the mums-to-be, helping them all to keep in touch during pregnancy.

She wrote on Facebook: “What can I say, I live on a very fertile street.”

Ailie spoke to Bristol Live last month about how her yoga initiative, set up with her friend, is helping to plant thousands of trees around the world.

Her neighbour Catherine Gilmore, 31, is pregnant for the first time with her partner Michael Malay.

Meanwhile TV producer Victoria Bromley, 36, and her husband David Hume are expecting their second child in July.

She told the BBC that there must be "something in the water".

They already have a two-year-old toddler named Freddie.

Caroline Hardman, 33, and her husband Matt, have a one-year-old daughter called Ruth, and are expecting their second.

The sixth mum-to-be no longer lives on the street, but discovered she was pregnant whilst living there.
