Bristol street food restaurant in running to win major Deliveroo award

A Bristol street food business that started as a lockdown pop-up has been recognised in the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards.

Hawaiian-inspired takeaway Loki Poké was launched as a delivery-only pop-up in March 2020 by owner Georgia Hussey.

Georgia, who grew up on a farm near Bristol, was inspired by her time living in Sydney, where poké bowls are a popular delicacy.

Her delivery service proved popular in its first few months, allowing her to eye up her first permanent site which opened at Cargo in Wapping Wharf earlier this year.

The shipping container was transformed into a "mini poké bar" where customers can see their healthy bowls being made in front of them, choosing any toppings they like.

A year since she launched the business, Georgia has now been shortlisted in the category for ‘best salads and bowls’ in the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards.

Loki Poké is up against 18 other poké businesses from all over the UK, many from London and Manchester, which have all been longlisted for their consistently glowing reviews on the food delivery app.

Voting for the awards closes today (September 27) and Georgia will then find out whether she has won next month.

She said: "When I started Loki Poké it was just a lockdown side hustle. I’d post on our local community Facebook group, take orders via WhatsApp and do the deliveries myself.

“I started trading on Deliveroo in November 2020, when everything became a bit more official. And it’s grown so quickly from there.”

Georgia says she is particularly pleased that she has been picked out of thousands of businesses.

“I'm chuffed to be nominated for the Deliveroo Restaurant Award, it's a bit mad to think we've been picked out of the 44,000 or so restaurants on Deliveroo," she added. "And to be up against some amazing poké places and big brands in London and Manchester.

“I remember the first ever order we got on Deliveroo - it came in literally a minute after we’d opened. We still have the receipt on our fridge. I love it whenever I see her name pop up on an order ticket now.

“We've got some amazing loyal customers who have supported us through every stage and we’re really grateful to them.”
