Bristol street food restaurant at Cargo closes permanently

A street food restaurant in Bristol has closed permanently.

The Pickled Brisket was one of the first units to open at Cargo in Wapping Wharf and impressed former Bristol Live food critic Mark Taylor soon after its launch.

Having served its first sarnie from its permanent home in 2017 after two years of operating pop-ups at pubs and markets across Bristol, it was the only salt beef bar in Bristol.

But owners husband and wife Robin and Flora Slater have decided to close the unit to instead focus on catering for private bookings and events.

Speaking about the closure, Robin said: "We really enjoyed being down at Cargo for the past three years. It has a lovely community feel and there are loads of fantastic restaurants there.

"But we want to focus more on private bookings and events. We had started to think about leaving towards the end of last year, before the arrival of coronavirus.

"We had hoped to get one more summer under our belts before closing but sadly that wasn't to be.

"We've got a few wedding bookings in the diary towards the end of next year and we're waiting to see what happens with events, which will hopefully resume in the summer.

"We were lucky to have great customers down at Wapping Wharf who we will miss."

The Pickled Brisket was highly rated on Google, with one fan praising its "absolutely epic cheese toasties and salt beef" and another adding it served "the best salt beef sandwich my hubby has ever eaten".

It is not yet know what will replace the outgoing business.

A spokesperson for Umberslade, the developer behind Cargo, said there has "already been lots of interest in the space".

Those who would like to enquire about the unit can email Umberslade on enquiries@umberslade.co.uk.

Bristol's first fermented food shop, Every Good Thing, recently opened a few doors down from where The Pickled Brisket was located, alongside a new ethical clothing and gift store called Frankly.
