Last year, the infamous 'Beast from the East' brought widespread snow and disruption across the country.
Now researchers say it could be back in the form of a freezing vortex of Arctic air, which could cause the coldest winter Bristol has seen in years.
The Midlands will be one of the worst-affected areas by the cold snap, according to the scientists who have studied weather systems over the north Atlantic.
Their research at University College London shows January and February next year could be the coldest winter in the past seven years, reports Gloucestershire Live.
"This would rank the 2020 January-February central England temperature as the coldest winter since 2013 and January-February 2020 as the seventh coldest winter in the past 30 years," Mark Saunders, who led the research team, told Sunday Times.
Last year Bristol was covered in heavy show amid freezing temperatures caused by conditions brought in by chilling Siberian winds.
Scientists have estimated there's a "57% chance the central England temperature will be colder than in 2018" when the Beast from the East returns.
The researchers measured changes in sunlight and other factors which affect the 200mph Gulf stream to share their bleak analysis.
