There have been 48 new coronavirus cases recorded in the Bristol area in the last 24 hours, according to the latest government data.
The City of Bristol has seen 19 new infections reported since yesterday, with a further nine new cases confirmed in South Gloucestershire.
A total of 4,427 people are now known to have had COVID-19 in and around Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic in March.
The latest jump in numbers comes after data revealed that the city was potentially just two weeks away from reaching similar coronavirus infection rates to several areas of South Wales that are to be placed under a local lockdown.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bristol, as of 9am this morning (Saturday, September 26), with the number of new cases in brackets, is as follows:
- City of Bristol - 1,795 (+19)
- North Somerset - 1,125 (+9)
- South Gloucestershire - 988 (+9)
Bath and North East Somerset - 519 (+10)
It comes after another large rise in coronavirus infections across the UK in the last 24 hours.
A further 6,042 people have tested positive for the virus across the country since yesterday, a slight decrease on the 6,874 cases recorded the previous day.
There have now been 429,277 coronavirus cases in the UK since the pandemic began in March.
A total of 34 deaths have been recorded across the country since yesterday, taking the number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus to 41,971.
