Bristol sees another large rise in Coronavirus infections in last 24 hours

There have been 41 new coronavirus cases recorded in the Bristol area in the last 24 hours, according to the latest government data.

The City of Bristol has seen 16 new infections reported since yesterday, with a further 13 new cases confirmed in South Gloucestershire, taking the number of people to have tested positive for the virus in the district since the beginning of the pandemic past the 1,000 mark.

Outside the city, there have been 13 new infections recorded in North Somerset and a further eight new cases confirmed in Bath and North East Somerset.

A total of 4,468 people are now known to have had COVID-19 in and around Bristol since the beginning of the first outbreak in March.

The latest jump in numbers comes after data revealed that the city was potentially just two weeks away from reaching similar coronavirus infection rates to several areas of South Wales that are to be placed under a local lockdown.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bristol, as of 9am this morning (Sunday, September 27), with the number of new cases in brackets, is as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 1,811 (+16)
  • North Somerset - 1,129 (+4)
  • South Gloucestershire - 1,001 (+13)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 527 (+8)

It comes after another large rise in coronavirus infections across the UK in the last 24 hours.

A further 5,693 people have tested positive for the virus across the country since yesterday, a slight decrease on the 6,042 cases recorded the previous day and the 6,874 seen on Friday.

There have now been 434,969 confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK since the pandemic began in March.

A total of 17 deaths have been recorded across the country since yesterday, taking the number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus to 41,988.
