Bristol sees 95 new Covid cases but no new deaths recorded in last 24 hours

There have been no new deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test recorded in Bristol and the surrounding areas in the last 24 hours.

The latest updates, published by Public Health England today (Saturday, February 27), do report a total of 95 new positive coronavirus tests across Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset.

This brings the total recorded across the four regions so far in the pandemic to 61,570.

More than half of these new cases (52) were recorded in the Bristol city region, bringing the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 29,428.

South Gloucestershire saw another 28 new cases, taking the overall total to 14,523.

There were nine and six new cases reported in North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset respectively.

The absence of any new deaths being recorded in any of these regions leave the overall total between the four still at 1,320.

The new cases recorded in the county today were part of a total of 7,434 total positive tests across the UK in the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide total to 4,170,519.

Breakdown of positive test results

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bristol - 29,428 (+52)

  • North Somerset - 9,642 (+9)

  • South Gloucestershire - 14,523 (+28)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 7,977 (+6)

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new deaths in brackets.

  • Bristol - 456 (-)
  • North Somerset - 300 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire - 348 (-)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 216 (-)

UK figures

The number of people who died today, within 28 days of a positive test, totalled 290.

Over 122,000 have lost their lives across the UK since the pandemic began, but the daily number of fatalities has been on the decline since the second peak on January 19.

Around one month ago, around 1,138 people were dying every day and the death rate has fallen consistently since then.

There were also 1,111 people admitted to hospital across the UK over the last 24 hours, with the total over the last seven days now sitting at 8,452 - a decline of nearly 2,500 on the previous week.

As things stand, the number of people have received their first vaccine dose is rapidly approaching 20 million, with the current total sitting at 19,682,048.

There have also now been more than 765,000 who have received their second jab.
