He said the school, based on Donald Road, has followed advice from Public Health England in dealing with the infections.

"Bedminster Down School has students isolating in all year groups following confirmed cases of Covid-19," said Mr Schlick.

"These are close contacts of those who have tested positive.

"Every time we receive a report of a student or staff member with coronavirus, we inform the Department for Education and Public Health England and follow the advice of the local health protection team.

"The safety of our students and staff is paramount."

Thousands of pupils across the city are now isolating after positive cases at more than 50 schools since the half-term break.

Staff shortages has also resulted in some schools partially closing.
