Bristol school confirms more coronavirus cases as pupils self-isolate

'A small number of pupils' have tested positive for coronavirus at Bristol Grammar School, just two days into the new term.

Dozens of students will now have to self-isolate for 14 days after several kids tested positive for the virus.

A spokesperson said: "Bristol Grammar School confirms that a small number of pupils have tested positive for COVID-19, and is following the guidelines, protocols, and notification process as set out by Public Health England."

This is the second time pupils at the all-through school on University Road, Clifton, have been forced to go into quarantine since September.

Before the half term, students in Year 13 had to isolate after a case.

Between September to October, 130 pupils and 73 members of staff were diagnosed with the virus across our city.

This resulted in 74 schools and nurseries in Bristol being partially closed.

You should book a Covid-19 test if your child has at least one of the following:

  • A high temperature - This means if they feel hot to touch on the chest or back. You do not need to measure their temperature.

  • A new continuous cough - This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If your child usually has a cough, it may be worse than usual).

  • A loss or change to their sense of smell or taste - They've noticed they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

If your child does not have symptoms of coronavirus but has other cold-like symptoms, such as a runny nose, they do not need to be tested.

They and members of your household do not need to self-isolate. In those circumstances, your child can attend school if fit to do so.
