Bristol's swimming pools and gyms will reopen next week as lockdown eases

Swimmers can return to the water from next week as pools across the city reopen as lockdown continues to ease across the UK.

Leisure centres in Horfield, Easton and Henbury will welcome customers back on Monday, April 12, after a three-month closure.

St Paul’s Community Sports Academy and Kingsdown Sports Centre will also open.

Covid safety rules will be in place, including social distancing and limited entry.

There will also be a staggered return to swimming lessons, with under-18’s first and adult sessions from May 17.

Christina Gray, Director for Communities and Public Health at Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We’re pleased that our leisure centres in Bristol are able to safely reopen in line with national Covid-19 guidance.

"For many people in our communities, leisure centres provide really important facilities to support with, not only their physical health, but emotional and mental well-being as well.

“I want to remind everyone using these facilities to please do so safely and in line with the centres’ Covid-secure requirements.

"Please give one another space when you’re using facilities and at all times remember: Hands, Face, Space.

"We must keep up these good behaviours to continue to protect our city.”

Gary Teagle, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said it's a 'positive move forward for the leisure industry'.

He said: "Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe continues to be our number one

priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance.

“We will be contacting all customers directly over the coming days regarding the centres reopening. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thank them for their patience.”
