Bristol's Showcase Cinema is screening the Wizard of Oz this Easter

The Wizard of Oz is arguably one of the finest family films ever made.

Released in 1939, the musical adventure sees Dorothy Gale embark on a quest with her new friends to see the Wizard who can help her return home after she's swept away from a farm in Kansas.

You probably thought you'd never get the opportunity to watch the timeless classic, starring Julie Garland, on the big screen again, given the fact it was released nearly a century ago.

But you would have been wrong - as Showcase de Lux in Cabot Circus is going to be showing it this weekend to mark its 80th anniversary.

James Dobbin, Director of Event Cinema for Showcase Cinema, said: "The Wizard of Oz  is a family favourite in many households and we’re delighted to be screening it as it celebrates its 80 anniversary.

"Click your heels and reunite with your favourite characters; Tin Man, Scarecrow and the cowardly Lion as they go in search for home, brains, a heart and a whole load of courage."

The Wizard of Oz will be shown at Showcase Cinema de Lux on Sunday, April 21 at 2pm and Tuesday, April 23 at 7pm.
