Bristol is home to a wealth of fantastic lunch options and one of the finest is undoubtedly Sandwich Sandwich.

The Bristol institution, which has four branches in the city, is known for using only the freshest ingredients.

And the company is now celebrating having picked up a prestigious gold award from the British Sandwich and Food to Go Association.

The Baldwin Street store won best Independent Sandwich Retailer in this year's Sammies Awards for variety of reasons including service, eating experience, product range, hygiene and cleanliness.

The Independent Retailer Award takes the Sammies judges around the country to rate independent sandwich shops.

'Sandwich Sandwich is a very worthy winner'

Mystery shop judges visited Sandwich Sandwich and, aside from scoring top marks in every aspect of the report, the judges’ comments included: “Very friendly and so busy, full of regular customers.

"The recipes and combination of ingredients were spot on. Despite being so busy, the service was quick and professional and the staff showed so much passion and knowledge of the sandwiches.

"With very attractive and appetising displays of food and excellent service standards, Sandwich Sandwich is a very worthy winner.”

Sandwich Sandwich, which is family-run, has been a staple in Bristol for more than 30 years and is well known for its wide selection of high-quality sandwiches.

Their sandwiches stuffed full of delicious ingredients prove to be great value for money, setting customers back around £4.

Aside from Baldwin Street, other Sandwich Sandwich branches can be found at Temple Way, in Clifton and on Cotham Hill.

'A wonderful accolade'

Chef Nick Kleiner and his wife Anita originally ran Cotham Sandwich Co. before transforming the shop into Sandwich Sandwich .

Nick at Sandwich Sandwich  said: “It’s great to be recognised with a national award.

"Sandwich Sandwich is a Bristol institution but to be recognised nationally is such a wonderful accolade for our family-run business.”
