Bristol's new Wallace and Gromit experience moves step closer as team moves into Arnolfini

The team behind the highly anticipated Wallace and Gromit experience that's opening in Bristol this year has moved into the Arnolfini to work on the project.

Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up is an interactive, augmented-reality experience opening in the city in the autumn.

Fans of the comical duo will be able to immerse themselves directly in the pair's adventures through a first-of-its-kind experience around Bristol’s harbourside.

The journey will build on Wallace and Gromit's expeditions which have so far included conquering the moon, vanquishing evil penguins and foiling plots to steal sheep.

Fictioneers, which is a collaboration between three companies - Potato, Sugar Creative, and Tiny Rebel Games - will be based at arts centre Arnolfini for the next 12 months as they develop the experience.

The group will work with Wallace and Gromit's creators, Aardman Animations, and the research team at the University of South Wales on the project, according to Business Live.

“The harbourside provides the perfect location for us situated across the harbour from and in view of the start of the location-based experience planned for this autumn," said Susan Cummings of Fictioneers.

"It’s also ideal as it’s so close to our friends at Aardman. Gary [Topp, executive director at Arnolfini] has offered us a warm welcome in the dynamic, creative home which is Arnolfini. We couldn’t be happier.”

The three individual companies that form Fictioneers all have experience in video game development, immersive technologies and scalable software architecture and design.

Gary Topp, executive director at Arnolfini, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Fictioneers to Arnolfini to be part of the creative community here.

"Arnolfini is well known as a Centre for Contemporary Art but we are also a base for a much wider creative community - from the large UWE student and academic cohort to our many community partners.”
