Bristol's coronavirus rate drops in latest official seven-day figures

Another 62 people across the Bristol region have tested positive for coronavirus, the latest figures show on Wednesday (March 10).

Today's total for all four local authorities across the West of England is lower than yesterday's 75.

Bristol once again reported the highest jump in cases of 28. The city's Covid-19 rate per 100,000 people has fallen to 48.3, after 224 infections were recorded between February 26 to March 5.

South Gloucestershire confirmed the second-highest rise, with 20. This district's rate stands at 44.9.

Ten positive lab tests were returned in North Somerset - its rate is slightly up at 41.4.

One further death was recorded today across the region, in the city of Bristol itself..

Breakdown of positive test results

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 8,063 (+4)
  • Bristol: 29,826 (+28)
  • North Somerset: 9,766 (+10)
  • South Gloucestershire: 14,707 (+20)

UK figures

The Government said a further 190 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 124,987.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 147,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 5,926 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,234,924.
