'Bristol's best kept secret' serves meals through hole in the wall

A Bristol restaurant that serves meals through a hole in the wall has been named the city’s ‘best kept secret’.

Eatchu, in St Nick’s Market, is a Japanese takeaway serving up a selection of gyozas including pork, chicken, mushroom and broccoli.

Owners Guy and Vic had to close their indoor seating area in The Old Mess Room when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

But they say the extra space inside turned out to be an “unexpected advantage” as they now have a larger menu serving up popular dishes through a hole in the wall.

Regular customer Millie rated Eatchu five stars on our recommendation sister site 2Chill , and said: “Finding this little place tucked away off St Nick’s Market was like finding Bristol’s best kept secret.

“The food here is some of the best you will get in the city and even if you’re a gyoza enthusiast, you’ve likely never had gyoza like this.

“Always so fresh tasting and packed with flavour - and the dressings make it.

“If you can, try the chef’s rice (although, be warned, it’s a big portion so you can share). Who knew rice could be such a star to a meal?

“My only advice on things to watch out for is that opening times are limited and they don’t take cash.”

Millie shared a photo of “the best dumplings you will ever have” alongside her glowing review.

Eatchu told 2Chill: “We’re Guy and Vic, husband and wife team, owners and founders of Eatchu. We started the business in 2016 and are amazed that people are still discovering us every day!

“We are hugely grateful for our regular customers for continuing to support us throughout the last 18 months, and for helping us spread the word to more and more new gyoza fans.”
