Bristol's best independent traders showcased in new online marketplace

A new online marketplace has been launched to showcase Bristol's independent retailers.

Restaurant discount app Wriggle says its new virtual high street, Squiggle, makes it easy for people to purchase from local shops and producers.

It is hoped the platform will "unleash the creative power of Bristol" and empower more people to start creating and selling their products.

The service is dedicated to highlighting local products and shops, giving both long-running and new brands a space to share their work with a local audience.

Shoppers will find a wide range of fantastic gift ideas on Squiggle (Wriggle)

Squiggle founder Rob Hall said: "In the first lockdown, the team at Wriggle created Bristol Pantry to help people do all their food and drink shopping from local producers.

"Squiggle applies the same thinking to local non-food and drink products, whether it’s flowers, plants, arts, books, toys and games or clothes - we want to capture the creative essence of Bristol, which is full of fantastic shops and makers."

There are more than 50 shops, producers and makers participating in Squiggle's launch.

They include popular high street institutions such as Bedminster’s Storysmiths bookshop and Toyville toy shop, Pirrip Press on Colston Street and People’s Republic of Stokes Croft china - as well as plenty of individual artists, creators, and producers.

Every penny spent on Squiggle, other than fees to payment providers, stays within the local ecosystem - going to either a local shop, producer, or enterprise.

The platform launches with an initial focus on gifting for Valentine’s Day, which takes place on Sunday, February 14.

Shoppers will be able to find gift ideas ranging from flowers and cards to books, games and activities to make lockdown Valentine’s Day as special as possible.

All purchases made on the new platform will be delivered every Friday by the Squiggle team.

Squiggle is calling for interested shops, producers and artists who would like to join the platform to get in touch by emailing hello@squigglebristol.com.
