Bristol's Being Brunel museum at SS Great Britain named leisure and tourism project of the year

Bristol's 'Being Brunel' visitor attraction which runs alongside the SS Great Britain has been named leisure and tourism project of the year.

The museum took home the prize at the 2019 Michelmores Property Awards.

The project saw the restoration of Brunel's Drawing Office, a grade II-listed building, and the partly derelict 20th century dockside buildings near the famous, historic ship.

The buildings have been transformed into a new visitor experience and museum, based on the life and legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

John Beauchamp, a judge of the Michelmores Property Awards said: "This project has really enhanced the existing SS Great Britain visitor attraction.

"'Being Brunel' tells the story of the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, where you can literally walk inside his mind and learn the innovative ways in which he worked."

The 2019 Michelmores Property Awards Gala Dinner was held at Sandy Park Conference Centre in Exeter, on Thursday 13 June, and was hosted by actor and writer Sally Phillips.

The annual Michelmores Property Awards, now in its 17th year, celebrates the very best of the South West's building and construction sector.
