Bristol's Bavarian Beerhouse transformed into global HQ for media agency Hybrid

A media agency has transformed a former Barvarian beer house in Bristol city centre into its new global headquarters.

Hybrid has spent nine months renovating and fitting out the old Bristol bar on Queen Charlotte Street.

The company's owner, James Craven, bought the venue after it was forced to close its doors just days before Oktoberfest in 2017.

Hybrid’s team of 50 staff have now moved into the new site, which still has a working bar on the ground floor.

James said: "This was too good an opportunity to miss; we needed a proper headquarters for the team and as the European centre of operations, we had to have a media hub, a place where we could collaborate with businesses and institutions, but also keep our working practices adept."

A number of the building's original features have been kept as part of the refit and the new office includes workspace, several co-working zones, creative breakout areas and a presentation arena.

Only local contractors were used for the project, including building company Lancer Scott, and it was overseen by Project 76.

Hybrid is a digital media agency with offices in Bristol, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Sydney, Australia.

The company specialises in the education and technology markets, and clients include the University of Bath and University of California, Berkeley, as well as tech giants Dell, Oracle, IBM and Cisco.

“Digital media is all about communication and collaboration: that's what creates huge benefits for our teams, and for the people that need to get their messages across," added Craven.
