Bristol Rovers terminate defender's contract with Scottish Premiership move imminent

Bristol Rovers have terminated Jack Baldwin's contract, with the defender on the verge of sealing a move to Scotland.

Bristol Live understands the 28-year-old is set to sign a long-term deal with an unnamed Scottish Premiership club.

The defender played his final game for Rovers in Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Exeter City, where he was taken off at half time after a woeful performance from the Gas.

With Rovers three players over the permitted 20-man squad limit, departures were inevitable before next week's transfer deadline.

And the surplus of centre-backs in Joey Barton's squad meant it was certain at least one would depart before the window shuts on August 31.

Baldwin signed for the Gas last summer, making 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice as the Gas suffered relegation to League Two.

He appeared in four matches this season., but he will now be plying his trade north of the border.

Baldwin is the first of several departures this week, with Barton required to trim his squad significantly to allow for more signings by the end of trading on August 31.

Brandon Hanlan is the subject of strong interest from Wycombe Wanderers, while Zain Westbrooke and Josh Barrett have been urged to find new clubs.
