Bristol Rovers sign well-travelled former Reading goalkeeper Anssi Jakkola

Bristol Rovers have added a second goalkeeper to their squad in the form of Anssi Jaakkola.

The Finnish goalkeeper has signed for Rovers after his departure from Championship side Reading, having made 16 appearances for them last season.

Jaakkola, 32, stands at 6ft 4in and will compete with fellow summer signing Jordi van Stappershoef for the number one shirt at Rovers.

The signing of the much-travelled goalkeeper, who has previously played for the likes of Slavia Prague, Kilmarnock and Ajax Cape Town, and has also been capped three times by Finland, completes Rovers' goalkeeping department.

Speaking about the signing to the club's website, Rovers manager Graham Coughlan said Jaakkola came with plenty of recommendation.

He said: "Anssi is a player that comes highly recommended to us and we are excited to have him at the club.

"He's been playing at a higher level and has a wealth of experience under his belt, playing in a number of different leagues and I'm sure he will be a big benefit to us.

"The goalkeeping department now has a good degree of competition and it's our hope that the players will push each other to get the best out of one another.

"Anssi's signing marks another milestone in our preparations for next season and I'm glad that the deal has been concluded during the early stages of pre-season."
