Bristol Rovers sent transfer message after Kyle Bennett's Grimsby loan is confirmed

Kyle Bennett's time at Bristol Rovers is now all but over.

The 30-year-old playmaker has joined League Two side Grimsby Town on a season-long loan, which will take him up to the end of his contract with Bristol Rovers.

The move was first reported exclusively by Bristol Live on Monday, and it has today been confirmed by both clubs, with Bennett speaking about how former Rovers midfielder and manager Ian Holloway was a key factor in his decision.

And now, he has the opportunity to get some game time, having fallen out of favour at the Memorial Stadium under Ben Garner.

Indeed, some Bristol Rovers fans believe this is a good deal that suits all parties, with the player now set for a fresh start, while his move could now free up some wages for the Gas to reinvest in the squad ahead of the domestic transfer window deadline.

And it is clear what some fans want, as can be seen from what some supporters have been saying about the move on social media.

Bennett scored four goals in 62 appearances for the Gas after joining from Portsmouth on a free transfer in January 2018.

Bennett had a loan spell at Swindon Town in the second half of the 2018-19 season, where he scored four goals in 15 appearances, before returning to Bristol Rovers, where he featured 19 times last season.

But he fell out of favour under former boss Graham Coughlan, and his successor Ben Garner decided early in lockdown Bennett would not be part of his side for the season ahead.
