Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Harrogate: Anderson and Collins produce the magic

James Belshaw - 8

Rovers started this game poorly and for a significant stretch of the first half their goalkeeper appeared to be the most composed in possession. Made a good save from Mark Beck to secure the clean sheet.

Luca Hoole - 7

His confidence grows by the game, making him a real asset as an all-round full-back. Handled himself well on a booking.

Connor Taylor - 8

Target man Beck was a bruising counterpart and Taylor was up to the challenge, winning more than his fair share of aeriel duels as per usual. Worked hard to ensure the clean sheet, intercepting a dangerous cross in the final 10 minutes when the points were already won.

James Connolly - 8

Did not put a foot wrong on the ball other than a rare errant pass that spoiled the Gasheads' oles with Rovers dominating possession at 3-0 up.

Nick Anderton - 7

Culpable in a sloppy start, but rapidly improved after playing a crucial hand in the opener. His layoff for Aaron Collins was perfectly weighted for the striker to wrap it into the top corner.

Paul Coutts (c) - 7

With the Gas playing into the wind in the first half, playing out from the back was proving difficult Coutts had little chance to affect the game in possession. Once they had took the lead, though, Coutts took control of the game and neutralised the Harrogate press by moving the ball smartly.

Sam Finley - 8

Came into his own in the second half with Rovers dominating possession, with his cute flicks to spring attacks adding some style. Tried to inspire Rovers in their first-half slump with some gritty defensive work and he went on to play a crucial role in the all-important opening goal.

Harry Anderson - 7

Made excellent runs that were not always picked out. Continues to offer much-needed variation to Rovers attack with his unselfish running to create space.

Antony Evans - 7

Wild in possession in the first half as the wind howled into his face, but he made up for that with a tough-tacking display and an improved showing on the ball in the second half.

Elliot Anderson - 9

Has threatened to score a goal of this quality before and he pulled it off on Saturday. He had only one thing in mind when receiving the ball from a quick free-kick, pointing his dead down and driving beyond several desperate challenges before applying a classy finish. Had gone close moments before with another chance he created for himself. Harrogate could not touch him; when Anderson wanted to do something, he did it.

Aaron Collins - 9

His hold-up play has been significantly improved in the two games this week, but this performance will be remembered for two stunning finishes. The opener was a desperately needed moment of inspiration with Rovers struggling to hit their stride, and the second was a chip that is emblematic of the wave of confidence he is riding.

Substitutes

Glenn Whelan (for Coutts on 70') - 7

Typical Glenn Whelan performance. Sensible and composed.

Harvey Saunders (for Finley on 70') - 7

Threatened behind the Harrogate defence. Could come up with a big moment in the run-in...

Ryan Loft (for H Anderson 79') - 6

Denied his first Rovers goal by a clearance off the line.

Not used: Jed Ward, Cian Harries, Trevor Clarke, Luke Thomas.
