Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Cheltenham: Anderson a bright spark but others anonymous

James Belshaw - 6

Was beaten by a wobbling long-range strike from Ellis Chapman on the half hour, but was rescued by his post. Could not deny Alfie May's perfectly-placed opener and was unlucky with the second goal. He moved well to stop Kyle Vassell's first effort, but that left him out of position for the ensuing scramble and the striker tapped in to make it 2-0.

Alfie Kilgour - 5

Just not a right-back. An uncomfortable night out of position for the centre-half.

Connor Taylor - 5

When he took charge of situations and was positive, he imposed himself on the game. On some occasions, though, his decision making could have been quicker. Used as an emergency forward late on, such is Rovers' shortage of options due to injuries.

Jack Baldwin - 4

Erratic. An errant first-half pass from the cusp of his own area was intercepted and he was lucky not to be punished and he was equally fortunate not to concede a goal after being dispossessed in his own box by Taylor Perry.

Nick Anderton - 5

Got wires crossed with Harry Anderson on the left flank at times, and had few chances to break forward in attack.

Josh Grant - 6

Had very little to work with in front of him. Steady performance.

Zain Westbrooke - 5

Combined with Luke Thomas to create Rovers' only memorable move through the thirds, but Westbrooke rushed his through ball for Harvey Saunders when he got the return ball, which alleviated the pressure on the defence. Prodded the ball through for Saunders to put the ball in the net after the break, but the striker was offside.

Ben Liddle - 5

Workmanlike but ineffective in midfield, with Cheltenham enjoying control of the game.

Luke Thomas - 4

Almost anonymous, with Rovers unable to build much at all in the Cheltenham half. Rovers need to do more to get him the ball in dangerous areas, and equally Thomas could do more to get himself into the game.

Harry Anderson - 6

Perhaps Rovers' brightest spark, showing intent when he got on the ball, but he was another who lacked quality in the service provided to him.

Harvey Saunders - 6

Ploughed a lone furrow at top, with the absence of a target man glaring. Did about as much he could with the service on offer, which was desperately lacking in quality and frequency.

Substitutes

Sion Spence (for Westbrooke on 70') - 5

Quiet.

Jamarni Langlais (for Langlais on 70') - 6

Worked hard.

Ryan Jones (for Thomas on 78') - 6

Curled a dangerous ball into the box.

Not used: Jed Ward, Cian Harries, Luca Hoole, Joe Budd.
