Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Carlisle: Antony Evans and Luke Thomas provide moments of class

James Belshaw - 7

A largely quiet game, but he was needed to make a good reaction to deny Brenan Dickenson's effort from range after a moment of chaos in the box. Did enough to get his hands behind Zach Clough's lob.

Luca Hoole - 7

Took little time to show he is an upgrade to the starting XI, defending with poise beyond his years on the right of the back four. Good in the air and read the game well. One or two questionable decisions after the break, but a good performance

Connor Taylor - 7

Led the defence like a veteran, rarely getting into trouble and putting his head on anything within the reach of his lanky frame.

Cian Harries - 6

Was lucky when Lewis Alessandra failed to convert the chance after being found in acres of space off Harries left shoulder. Little to complain about otherwise

Junior Brown - 5

A couple of involvements in the final third, though he and Harries parted like the Red Sea in their channel on one occasion and were fortunate not to be punished. Went off injured eight minutes before half time.

Paul Coutts (c) - 6

The regular recipient of grumbles and groans for the terraces, but although his passing could be more positive at times, he did a useful defensive job in front of the back four.

Glenn Whelan - 7

Shifted the ball out quickly to Antony Evans, who was able to isolate his defender one-on-one and break the deadlock. Appeared to be communicating plenty with the younger players on the park, using his experience well.

Harry Anderson - 6

Not his best day at the office in the attacking phase, but you'll always get the desired work rate and endeavour from the winger.

Harvey Saunders - 7

His pace and willingness to run in behind gave Rovers' attack a much-needed different dimension. Got the goal his hard work deserved, finishing ruthlessly one on one with the goalkeeper.

Antony Evans - 8

The Mem was oddly quiet in the opening half hour, perhaps a sign of the times around these parts, but most of the fleeting moments when the crowd was awoken came from the tricky feet of Evans. He broke the deadlock after skinning Danny Devine off the left flank and drilling into the bottom corner across Lukas Jensen.

Aaron Collins - 6

Played his part in the opener, making the most of a pretty aimless long ball forward to give Rovers an attacking platform. Will want more action in the penalty area for himself, but he worked hard for the team.

Substitutes

Nick Anderton (for Brown on 37') - 6

One rash moment set Carlisle on the attack, but an improved performance against his old club.

Luke Thomas (for Anderson on 68') - 8

A glittering cameo from the bench, providing two excellent assists to kill the game.

Sam Nicholson (for Collins on 78') - 7

Made no mistake converting Thomas' cross to end the contest.

Not used: Jed Ward, Zain Westbrooke, Pablo Martinez, Brett Pitman.
