Bristol Rovers player ratings as Westbrooke's slack defending gifts Swindon Town victory

Joe Day - 6

Made a decisive punch in an otherwise uneventful first half. No chance with Jack Payne's strike.

George Williams - 4

Offered little attacking threat when starting at right-back, and Payne's strike went through him en route to goal.

Alfie Kilgour - 4

Did OK up against Brett Pitman, but was poor on the ball in the closing stages when Rovers needed to move it quickly.

Jack Baldwin - 4

Gave away needless fouls and his work on the ball was mixed.

Luke Leahy (c) - 4

After a foray forward inside the opening seconds, he rarely saw the ball in the Swindon half in the first 45. The story was similar in the second half when he moved forward to wing-back.

Edward Upson of Bristol Rovers. (Ryan Hiscott/JMP)

Ed Upson - 6

Harshly booked for a first-half foul, which left him on thin ice. Taken off at the break.

Josh Grant - 6

A welcome return to the XI, bringing balance to Rovers' midfield. Span smartly and beat two or three men on the edge of the box as he looked to create a first-half opening.

Luke McCormick - 4

Not going down without a fight, but his recent performances have lacked quality on the ball.

James Daly - 5

Three certainties in live: death, taxes and James Daly running his heart out. However, he failed to work a shot in when played in behind and was substituted at the interval.

Brandon Hanlan - 4

Hold-up play was poor, failing to keep the ball under his spell for Rovers to build attacks. Rushed a good chance too.

Jonah Ayunga - 4

Inadvertently touched Zain Westbrooke's shot into the net, but it was incorrectly ruled out for offside. Did not hold the ball well and spurned a late chance to equalise, making a poor connection 10 yards out.

Subs

Josh Hare (for Upson on 46') - 4

Play on the ball was wayward.

Zain Westbrooke (for Daly on 46') - 4

Looked to have put Rovers ahead, via a touch from Ayunga, until the assistant referee intervened. His weak attempt to stop Payne on his way to goal was costly. On another day he would have been the hero, but his half-baked challenge and the resulting strike decided this game.

David Tutonda (for Baldwin on 79') - 5

Unable to make an attacking influence.

Erhun Oztumer (for Grant on 79') - 5

Saw nothing of the ball.

Not used: Jordi van Stappershoef, Mark Little, Zain Walker.
