Bristol Rovers player ratings as van Stappershoef and McCormick star in win over Plymouth Argyle

Jordi van Stappershoef - 8

Made two excellent saves in the first half to deny headers from Ryan Hardie and Will Aimson. Continued his good work in the second half with several more sharp saves.

Max Ehmer (c) - 7

Another good performance from the skipper at the right-back. Had few chances to advance forward like he did a week ago, but he defended solidly.

Alfie Kilgour - 7

Had a tough season so far, but there is nothing like a goal to boost the confidence and he buried a seventh-minute header to open the scoring. Had a tricky task against the lively Hardie, but for the most part he coped well.

Jack Baldwin - 8

A rock at the heart of the defence, winning every header as the balls flew into the box with Argyle chasing the game.

Luke Leahy - 8

His defensive effort was impressive, as were his occasional forays forwards. But the most impressive quality was his leadership. He was the loudest voice on the park when Rovers were struggling with Argyle's pressure.

Ed Upson - 6

Went close to scoring in the first half, being denied by the post. Made a couple of silly mistakes on the verge of half time which almost proved costly.

Josh Grant - 7

Started the game positively, crunching into tackles and moving the ball forwards, but his accuracy waned in the second half.

Zain Westbrooke - 8

Had a couple of good chances to score in the first half, but his delivery from set-pieces was superb. Had a long wait for his first league goal, but he was in the right place to kill the game off with four minutes left.

Luke McCormick - 8

Has been steadily improving in recent weeks, and he got his rewards today. He assisted the first goal with an out-swinging corner taken on his weaker left foot, before using the same boot to half-volley a second into the bottom corner.

Sam Nicholson - 7

Frustrating afternoon at times, but he improved as the game wore on. Great assist for Westbrooke's goal, and teed up Ayunga for a big chance late on with a sensational touch.

Brandon Hanlan - 6

Battled hard and caused problems, but the bounce of the ball was not going his way. Good shift without personal reward.

Subs

Jonah Ayunga (for Hanlan on 75 ) - 6

Put himself about. Missed a good chance late on, but pleasing to see him back after injury.

Cameron Hargreaves (for McCormick on 77) - 6

A willing runner, as always.

Josh Barrett (for Upson on 90) - N/A

Not used: Liam Armstrong, Josh Hare, Cian Harries, Ali Koiki.
