Bristol Rovers player ratings as set pieces cost Gas dearly once again

Joe Day - 4

Will be unhappy with his defence for the first goal, but will be equally disappointed with himself for Rochdale's second. Alex Newby's shot was straight at him and it squirmed through his grasp and over the line.

George Williams - 5

Picked a decent cross for Oztumer early, but his subsequent deliveries were not precise enough. Defended well. Could only find the side netting with one of the final kicks of the game.

Max Ehmer (c) - 5

As the captain and the leader of the defence, he has to take responsibility for Rovers' horrible record at defensive set pieces. Newby's opener was from a terribly-defended near post corner. Delivered a good cross for Leahy's equaliser.

Alfie Kilgour - 5

This defence will continue to cause fury for fans if they keep giving themselves a mountain to climb through bad defending. Kilgour was otherwise steady.

Cian Harries - 5

Threw his body in front of one to deny Newby a hat-trick. Did OK coming in for Jack Baldwin, but the set piece issues remain.

Luke Leahy - 6

Dragged Rovers level with a stunning volley, his fifth goal of the season. Had plenty of confidence going forwards, but he should have done more to prevent Newby's second goal. He did not apply enough pressure on the shot as the Dale man strolled into the box.

Abu Ogogo - 6

Was steady in central midfield before a hamstring injury forced him off before half time.

Zain Westbrooke - 5

Was too deep throughout the first half, giving the Dale midfielders few defensive concerns. Took up better positions in the second period. His dead ball deliveries were inconsistent, and Westbrooke's certainly had better games.

Erhun Oztumer - 5

A smattering of smart passes and decent moments, but his influence was often stunted and he did not make the most of his shooting chances.

Sam Nicholson - 7

Had a hand in the build-up to the equaliser and was so unlucky not to give the Gas the lead with a super strike from 25 yards, but he was denied by the bar. Looked the likeliest source of a late equaliser. Was furious with Jonah Ayunga after the striker failed to gamble on his cross-shot.

Brandon Hanlan - 5

Gave the defence a tough afternoon, but rushed his shooting chances and was offside when he did find the back of the net. Given it was from a free-kick, he really should have remained in an onside position.

Subs

Josh Grant (for Ogogo on 45) - 5

Solid in midfield when called upon, but strangely turned down a clear shooting chance on the cusp of half time.

Jonah Ayunga (for Oztumer on 68) - 4

Had to gamble on a late chance which would have deserved a point, but he stood still and Nicholson was rightly angry.

Josh Barrett (for Westbrooke on 83) - NA

Luke McCormick (for Hanlan on 83) - NA

Not used: Jordi van Stappershoef, David Tutonda, Alex Rodman.
