Bristol Rovers owner Wael Al-Qadi opens up on criticism and relationship with supporters' club

Wael Al-Qadi insists Bristol Rovers would welcome a new fans' representative onto the board, provided they have the best interests of the club at heart.

Bristol Rovers' Supporters' Club (BRSC) is entitled to a seat on the board through it's 3.5 per cent stake in the club, but it has not had an official representative following the exile and eventual resignation of Ken Masters earlier in the year.

A statement from BRSC chairman Jim Chappell in April labelled Al-Qadi a "disgrace" and said he would not be putting forward candidates to replace Masters.

But the relationship between Rovers and BRSC has improved with Al-Qadi insisting he would welcome a new fans' representative on the board in July.

Three months on, the message remains the same.

"Of course," Al-Qadi told Bristol Live.

"As long as the person put forward has the best interests of the club, of course we are willing to work with anyone."

Last month, BRSC said it had a "number of applicants" for the role and an election will be held in due course. The date is yet to be announced.
