Bristol Rovers' next opponent Lincoln City lose long-term manager Danny Cowley

Bristol Rovers' opponents on Saturday, Lincoln City, are set for a week of disruption after manager Danny Cowley was appointed at Championship club Huddersfield on Monday.

Huddersfield owner and chairman Phil Hodgkinson has been a long-term admirer of Cowley and has won the battle to sign his man as he agreed a three-year contract in Yorkshire alongside brother Nicky.

Cowley enjoyed three hugely-successful years with the Imps, guiding Lincoln from the National League since taking over in May 2016. Lincoln were promoted to League One this season and currently sit fifth in the table.

Cowley reportedly turned down Hudderfield's first approach and was reluctant to walk out on Lincoln but with the Terriers second from bottom in the Championship having coming down from the Premier League this summer, Hodgkinson has made it a priority to land his man.

"Nicky and I have a burning ambition to challenge ourselves at the highest possible level," said Cowley in a statement.

"We don't know if an opportunity as good as this one will come around again and we never want to live with regret."

Cowley, 40, will take over from caretaker boss Mark Hudson, who has not been able to stop the Terriers’ slide down the table, losing all three of his matches.

Hudson succeeded Jan Siewert last month after Hodgkinson sacked the German because he managed to win just one of his 19 games in charge. It appears Cowley’s first game at the helm of Huddersfield will be at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, who have just appointed Garry Monk as their new manager.

In his place, Lincoln are expected to appoint Newport County manager Michael Flynn.
