Bristol Rovers midfielder wanted by non-league club

Gloucester City are keen to take Luke Russe on loan.

The Bristol Rovers midfielder had a successful time on loan at the National League North club last season and with the amount of midfielders in the Gas' squad, it appears unlikely that he will feature heavily in Graham Coughlan's first-team plans this season.

Following an injury to Jennison Myrie-Williams, Gloucester are in talks with Rovers over another loan for Russe.

Manager Mike Cook told Gloucestershire Live: "Jennison's got a setback with his injury, what we thought the injury was has now not turned out to be that. It’s turned out to be something different.

"We spoke to Chloe Lees, the physio, who is very disappointed as it’s not what she thought it was, which has set him back another month to six weeks we think.

"It’s one of the reasons, along with a couple of injuries last night, that we’re trying to get Luke Russe in."

Russe played nine games on loan at the Tigers last season, scoring one goal.

The 20-year-old has so far made eight appearances in total for Rovers since making his debut in 2017.

His last game in a Rovers shirt was a 2-0 defeat to Exeter City in the EFL Trophy last season.
