Bristol Rovers make first summer signing as former Bristol City man joins

Bristol Rovers have made their first summer signing - and it's a familiar face.

The Gas have signed former Bristol City defender Mark Little following the expiry of his contract at newly-relegated Bolton Wanderers.

The 30-year-old right-back made 100 appearances during three years at Ashton Gate and was man of the match as the Robins won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2015 before claiming the League One title and promotion to the Championship the same season.

He becomes Graham Coughlan's first signing of the summer and provides another versatile option at the back after the departure of James Clarke to Walsall last week.

Little left City for Bolton in 2017, but having made 30 appearances in his first season his game time was restricted in 2018/19. He played just four times as he fell out of favour with manager Phil Parkinson.

The Wolves youth product has also experienced promotion to the Championship with Peterborough United in 2011 and has played for Northampton Town and Chesterfield.

He enjoyed his most productive spell with the Posh, scoring four times and providing 15 assists.

Coughlan will hope he can emulate that form at the Memorial Stadium.

Speaking to the club's official website, the Rovers boss said: "Mark is a player that should be playing at a higher level, he adds good quality and is a real all-rounder so we are delighted to bring him to the club.

"He's got two promotions on his CV, an abundance of experience in the leagues and he knows what it takes to get out of this division."

The deal will officially go through on July 1st and will be subject to EFL and FA approval, although the length of Little's contract has not been disclosed.
