Bristol Rovers legend Paul Trollope joins Graham Coughlan in running for League One job

Paul Trollope is the bookmakers' favourite to be the new Doncaster Rovers manager.

The Bristol Rovers promotion-winning hero is out of work after leaving Nottingham Forest when Chris Hughton was sacked in September.

But the oddsmakers have tipped him to return to the game with League One strugglers Doncaster, who are without a manager following Richie Wellens' sacking on December 2.

The 49-year-old is a 2/1 favourite, with former Bristol City coach Paul Simpson and caretaker boss Gary McSheffrey priced at 3/1.

The first round of interviews for the vacancy were held by Donny on Monday, according to the Doncaster Free Press.

Trollope steered the Gas to promotion from League Two in 2007 via the play-offs and remained in charge until 2010.

He has since had coaching spells with Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and the Welsh national team.

But he has not managed a side since 2016, when he was in charge of Cardiff City for 12 games before losing his job after a poor start to the season.

Graham Coughlan, another former Rovers manager, was the early favourite for the top job at the Keepmoat Stadium, but he has since drifted to 12/1.

Doncaster sit one place above the bottom of League One, with 16 points from 23 games, six points adrift of safety.
