Bristol Rovers' League One opponents confirmed as Wigan Athletic’s relegation appeal fails

Bristol Rovers' League One opponents for next season have been confirmed after Wigan Athletic failed in their bid to overturn a points deduction.

Wigan finished comfortably in mid-table in the Championship last season but entered administration towards the end of the campaign, which saw them hit with a 12-point deduction.

That was enough to see them relegated, with Barnsley being spared the drop.

The Latics lodged an appeal against the punishment but an independent arbitration panel have dismissed this.

It means Wigan will be playing League One football next season.

There is still the possibility of Charlton Athletic, who have also been relegated from the Championship, launching an appeal against the decision to implement a points deduction on Sheffield Wednesday at the start of next season instead of immediately - yet, for the time being, this is how League One looks for 2020/21.
