Bristol Rovers injury update: Latest on Tom Davies and Tareiq Holmes-Dennis ahead of Swindon Town

Bristol Rovers will give some much-needed minutes to fringe players for their EFL Trophy clash with Swindon Town tomorrow evening.

Rovers have had a busy schedule so far this season and have consistently used the competition to rotate their squad.

It does not appear to be any different for Wednesday's game - despite the fact Rovers need at least a bonus-point draw to qualify for the knockout stages.

So, with multiple players having been suffering from injuries recently, could we see any of them on the pitch for Wednesday's game? Here is the latest from the treatment room.

Tom Davies

Graham Coughlan said it was risk against reward as to whether the centre-back would be asked to play through injury against Rochdale earlier this month, indicating that Davies' knee injury was not too serious. Yet he also sat out the Gas' draw with Bromley at the weekend, with Joe Dunne saying pre-match that they would assess the player's fitness on Saturday.

It suggests the player is not that far from fitness, but it also seems unlikely that Rovers will risk him for the EFL Trophy. He could be given a place on the bench in order to get some game time, but it is difficult to see him starting.

Jonson Clarke-Harris

It was a bit of a surprise to see the talismanic striker back in Rovers' squad for the game against Bromley, with Joe Dunne revealing pre-match that the game had come too soon for the player.

Graham Coughlan admitted after the draw that Clarke-Harris is not fully fit and it was a gamble to throw him in. It seems unlikely that he will be risked in the EFL Trophy, and will instead be given another week of recovery ahead of the FA Cup replay next week.

Tareiq Holmes-Dennis

The left-back is yet to return to competitive football following his knee surgery in the summer, but came through 45 minutes of a development squad game late last month.

He could well be fit enough to feature in the squad to play Swindon Town tomorrow evening, with coach Kevin Maher indicating the game will be used to give players minutes on the pitch.

Ollie Clarke

Clarke missed the draw with Bromley due to a niggling injury, and Coughlan wants to give his captain the chance to rest in order to fully regain fitness. Rovers will check on him ahead of Swindon, but the manager wants him to be fully fit before putting him back into the side.

Josh Hare

Still recovering from the ACL injury he received against Gillingham in September. Expected to make a relatively quick comeback from that sort of injury, but even so, Rovers will not see him again in action until February or March time at the earliest.

Sam Matthews

Little is known about his return from injury after surgery in the summer. Rovers are continuing to monitor his progress, but a return date does not yet appear to have been set.
