Bristol Rovers injury news: Latest after Tom Nichols and Ed Upson limp off in midweek

Bristol Rovers host Accrington Stanley tomorrow, boosted by the display of several back-up players in Tuesday's EFL Trophy game against Plymouth Argyle.

Those back-up players could well be needed after Tom Nichols and Ed Upson limped off in the game, adding to Rovers' injury concerns.

Here is the current state of play in the Gas' treatment room.

Tom Nichols

The striker went down with cramp during Tuesday evening's EFL Trophy game against Plymouth Argyle, being replaced by Tyler Smith.

However, speaking ahead of Accrington Stanley, manager Graham Coughlan said the side had no fresh injury concerns, and that players were just suffering from a bit of tightness due to the busy schedule.

Ed Upson

Upson was replaced fairly quickly against Plymouth Argyle due to tightness, with Coughlan blaming Rovers' hectic schedule.

However, like Nichols, Coughlan said there were no lingering issues from Tuesday evening and nothing that will concern them too much.

Liam Sercombe

The midfielder is closing in on a return to action, according to Rovers boss Graham Coughlan, who says he is 'back on the grass'.

He said: "The good news is that we'll have Liam Sercombe back on the grass, so things are healthy in that department.

"He adds a bit of competition."

Tareiq Holmes-Dennis

The left-back is still out after under going a knee operation in the summer, and was given a three-to-four month return date.

Graham Coughlan said the situation remains pretty much the same, but that Holmes-Dennis is still around the squad on a regular basis.

"Tareiq is in nearly every day," he said.

Sam Matthews

As with Holmes-Dennis, the situation is pretty much the same with the midfielder.

He is continuing his rehab and has a similar time frame out to Holmes-Dennis.

Coughlan said not much had changed in terms of their recovery but, as their rehab progresses, a return date will become more defined.
