Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola updates fans on fitness after shoulder injury

Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola has said he is '100 per cent fit' after recovering from a dislocated shoulder earlier in the season.

The Fin was one of the Gas' best players in the first half of the season and had endeared himself to the Rovers faithful with some stellar performances between the sticks.

However, he dislocated his shoulder diving for a ball in the 3-0 loss to MK Dons in January and was out of action until football was suspended following the coronavirus outbreak.

Second choice keeper Jordi Van Stappershoef filled in for several games before the Gas brought in Chelsea keeper Jamal Blackman on loan in January.

The former Leeds United and Sheffield United loanee performed well during his time at the Gas, but ahead of a decision being made on the return of League One football Jaakkola has declared himself fit.

He tweeted to say '100 per cent fit' including a video of himself making saves and comfortably landing on both shoulders following surgery.

Fans will be very glad to hear the news of his fitness, despite not knowing for sure what will happen with the rest of the season.

League One clubs are due to vote on whether to finish the season by playing the matches or curtail the season and decide the table on a points per game basis.

It is expected to that the season will be curtailed and that would likely mean the end of Blackman's time at the Gas, as implied by Ben Garner's comments after Alexis Andre Jr signed a new contract this week.

He said: "Alongside Anssi and Jordi he gives us good depth and competition in the goalkeeper position under the guidance of Adrian Tucker.”

Jaakkola will look to regain his spot as number one next season and Garner will be pleased to see the Fin returning from surgery.
