Bristol Rovers fans to help people in crisis at Ipswich Town game

Bristol Rovers’ upcoming game against Ipswich Town will give Gasheads another chance to support Bristolians in need.

Gasheads Against Food Poverty (GAFP) will host a collection for North Bristol Foodbank when the Tractor Boys visit the Mem on March 14.

The group is calling for donations of instant mash, instant coffee, chopped tomatoes, sponge pudding, tinned spaghetti and tinned meat.

Tinned potatoes, rice pudding and dental items are also desired, and with Easter little more than a month away chocolate eggs will also well received.

It will not be the first time GAFP has vied to help people in need, hosting three successful food collections in the past two years, with around three tonnes of food donated by kind-hearted supporters.

The most recent collection was prior to the Southend United fixture on December 7, with hundreds of fans making donations.

GAFP hopes that success can be replicated next weekend.

It’s spokesman said: “We have had three very successful collections in which generous Rovers fans have donated around a tonne of supplies on each occasion.

“Sadly, emergency food supplies distributed by North Bristol Foodbank have increased by 54 per cent between April and September 2019 compared to the same period last year.

“Yate and Chipping Sodbury Foodbank, which merged with North Bristol Foodbank recently, saw an increase in demand of 48 per cent in the same period.

“Donations will be distributed to people in crisis across north Bristol and South Gloucestershire.”
