Bristol Rovers fan view: Gas are a side built for 0-0 draws and need another striker in January

The penalty save just about topped off another very lacklustre home performance as we search for a goal, let alone a win.

It was good to see Ben Garner back in the dugout and I know we have to be patient and give him time to try and get Rovers playing in the way he wants but it is not happening just yet.

On Saturday I am afraid it was very much the same old same old with not enough width, plenty of long high balls and very little creativity which led to very few clear cut chances. It is no surprise we are not scoring goals.

There was just the one flowing move near the end of the first half which ended with a shot on target but there has been very little football of late from Rovers to excite the fans. We desperately try and get behind the team but they have given us very little to shout about.

whose imposing presence was a boost for the side and he will have been pleased to start with a clean sheet.

It was also good to see Tom Davies back in the side and he didn’t disappoint with his strong dominance in the air giving Rovers that extra stability at the back.

But to accommodate him we in effect played three centre-backs with Alfie Kilgour moved to wide on the right. Young Kilgour is having a great season but he is not a right back and doesn’t really offer us much going forward so I was surprised Alex Rodman was left out.

So at the moment we are a side built for 0-0 draws. We look good at the back, don’t give much away and have plenty of competition for places in defence. But the problem is the ball is not moved smoothly through midfield. It didn’t look pretty even when we reached fourth in the table.

I suspect Jonson Clarke-Harris is not a Garner type of player but the manager has no option but to use him as he has very little else up front. Both Josh Barrett and Josh Ginnelly worked hard but we still need another striker before the window closes.

I read recently how a so called expert claimed that your hair going grey can be caused by too much stress. Surely that does not mean that millions all over the world have followed Rovers for years like I have.

Tomorrow is another big match at Bolton. It should be a place where we can score a goal but remember how they thrashed us at home. I’m stressed out already.
