Bristol Rovers dealt blow as goalkeeper Jack Bonham moves elsewhere after Brentford release

Bristol Rovers have been dealt a blow with the news that Jack Bonham has joined Gillingham.

The goalkeeper spent last season on loan at the Gas from Brentford and was superb all year, helping them to record 18 clean sheets.

After his release from Brentford, Rovers manager Graham Coughlan opened talks with Bonham to try and convince him to join the club on a permanent basis.

Yet he has instead opted to join League One rivals Gillingham, signing a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old told the Gills' website he was pleased to get the deal done.

He said: “I am delighted to get the deal done, it’s been going on for a couple of weeks now and just thankful to get it over the line. I’m excited for the start of the season.

“I’d like to think of myself as a consistent goalkeeper. I’ve still got things to work on and get better at, but hopefully I bring my best to Gillingham.”
