Bristol Rovers cult hero Stuart Sinclair reunites with Darrell Clarke at Walsall

Darrell Clarke has continued his Bristol Rovers revolution at Walsall.

The former Gas boss took over at the Saddlers earlier this month, and has already recruited Brian Dutton and Marcus Stewart to be his assistant managers - both of whom worked under him at the Gas.

Now he has signed Rovers cult hero Stuart Sinclair after his departure from the Memorial Stadium.

The midfielder was released at the end of the season but has now signed up to join Clarke at the recently-relegated Saddlers.

It is the player's third playing spell under Clarke having also been with him at Salisbury, and the 31-year-old told Walsall's website that he was looking forward to it.

"It’s exciting times," he said.

"It has been a tough period for the club but now it’s all about getting that excitement back and moving forward and being successful.

"I was at Bristol Rovers for a long time and I enjoyed a successful period with them. It’s a new challenge now and that is exciting.

"It’s a great club and I can’t wait to meet the supporters and everybody at the club.

"I have a close relationship with the gaffer and I know what he can bring to the table. I can trust him and that is important for me personally.

"When he told me about things here at Walsall, I was extremely excited. I’m an honest and energetic kind of player and I will do everything I can to help us win football games.

"That’s what I have tried to put forward in my footballing career so hopefully that will come across to the supporters."

Clarke revealed that he was happy to be reuniting with the midfielder.

He said: "He’s a lad I know very, very well and he’s shared many a promotion with me. He’s the sort of personality and character we need to be bringing into the changing room. He knows how to get success out of League Two.

"Not only does he bring on-field ability, he’s a great lad and we need a bit of leadership in the changing room, more so this season.

"He ticks a lot of boxes and I’m delighted to have got him. He’s had plenty of offers on the table but I’m grateful he’s chosen to link up with myself and Walsall."
