Bristol Rovers 'bracing' for interest in Jonson Clarke-Harris - report

Bristol Rovers are bracing themselves for interest in Jonson Clarke-Harris, according to reports.

HITC claim that a number of Championship and League One clubs are preparing moves for the striker as the transfer window really hots up.

The striker was in fine form for the Gas after signing from Coventry City in January, netting an impressive 11 goals in 16 League One appearances to help Rovers avoid relegation.

His form led to rumours that Hull City were interested in signing Clarke-Harris but, as of yet, the Tigers have not done anything to firm up their interest in the player.

Rovers boss Graham Coughlan said at the end of last month that he had not received any contact over the striker.

He told BBC Radio Bristol: "Let's be honest, I've had no phone calls ... nobody has phoned me and asked me as of yet about Jonson Clarke-Harris.

"A lot of managers on the QT and outside the game have asked me and spoken to me about him but no club has come to me and directly asked about Jonson Clarke-Harris.

"Now, if I'm a manager at a higher level, yes I'd be on the phone looking for Jonson Clarke-Harris because I know what he can do and what he's all about."

Yet the report also states that Clarke-Harris has a buy-out clause in his contract, meaning Rovers would have no other option but to let the striker leave should that clause be met by a club.

Clarke-Harris has missed Rovers' pre-season friendlies so far due to injury but Coughlan says he will be back soon.

He said: "Jono is all done and dusted, we are hoping to have Jono back one of the days next week.

"We injected him and it didn’t quite work, we rested him and it didn’t quite work, so the last option was to have an op. I believe they call it keyhole surgery.

"The terminology means very little to me, all I care about is when I can have him back on the grass and I hope to have him back on the grass some day this week."
