Bristol Rovers boss Paul Tisdale gives update on injuries to Anssi Jaakkola and Erhun Oztumer

Paul Tisdale hopes both Anssi Jaakkola and Erhun Oztumer will be fit soon, with both missing Saturday’s game against Plymouth Argyle at the Mem.

Jordi van Stappershoef and Luke McCormick will start in their place as Tisdale searches for his first home win as Bristol Rovers boss.

Jaakkola was taken off at half time in the EFL Trophy tie at Leyton Orient on Tuesday, while Oztumer’s injury has come out of the blue in the 24 hours prior to the game.

The nature of either knock has not been disclosed by the manager, but ahead of the game he confirmed neither player is expected to be missing for too long.

“Both (changes) forced unfortunately,” Tisdale told BBC Radio Bristol. “Anssi, we thought he’d be fit today but he hasn’t quite made it and Ozzie has picked up an injury today, so he’s not here today either.

“We wish they were fit today, but we’ve got to get through and it’s an opportunity for two more players to show what they’re made of.”

Van Stappershoef played the second half against Orient and delivered a mixed performance with some decent saves and a few nervous moments.

Tisdale was asked about his approach with the back-up keeper to prepare him for the game.

“Keep away from him and let him get on with it,” the manager replied.

“There is a time and a place for talking to a player, but sometimes you just need to leave them to it.

“He’s a big boy, he’s a professional footballer and just let him get on with it.”
