Bristol Rovers boss Graham Coughlan full of praise for Anssi Jaakkola as string of fine saves earns win over Rochdale

Graham Coughlan says Anssi Jaakkola's brilliant save that earned Bristol Rovers a victory over Rochdale belongs in the Premier League.

The Gas led 2-1 thanks to an own goal and Victor Adeboyejo's striker but were coming under some serious pressure in the second half.

Yet Jaakkola pulled off a string of stops, including a stunning save to deny Ian Henderson as he somehow clawed the ball out from underneath him on the line.

Coughlan was disappointed at how his side let Rochdale back into the game but praised Rovers' character to see out the win.

"The big man in goal, the save he pulled off late on belongs in the Premier League, to be quite honest," Coughlan said.

"The goalkeeping department is strong.

"He's a good goalkeeper, he's obviously an international goalkeeper.

"He's in there kicking off because he wanted to keep a clean sheet, but that's the standards that they set and that's where we're at and what we want.

"I was disappointed with how we let them back into the game, yet again it was another easy cross down the side - a cross, then bang, a goal.

"So I was disappointed with the way we conceded but, once again, I have to be proud and overjoyed with them.

"They're a great group, I say it week in, week out, but they're an excellent group to work with.

"I'm delighted with them."
