Bristol Rovers boss Ben Garner explains decision to re-sign Jayden Mitchell-Lawson from Derby County

Bristol Rovers have announced their seventh summer signing in Jayden Mitchell-Lawson, who returns to the Mem after a successful loan spell last season.

The winger has rejoined on a season-long loan from Derby County after showing flashes of brilliance in a short spell before last season was curtailed.

The 20-year-old was hugely impressive despite Rovers' horrendous form at the time, scoring twice in 10 games – his first taste of senior football.

Gasheads have been clamouring for Mitchell-Lawson's return, and they have their wish ahead of the Pirates' first pre-season friendly against Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday.

"We are delighted to welcome Jayden back to Bristol Rovers," Gas boss Ben Garner told the club's website.

"The simple fact is that we really wanted him to return and he also really wanted to come back to us so everyone is very happy.

"Jayden showed his incredible potential last season where he improved significantly in a short space of time.

"I fully expect him to go from strength to strength this season and to be a real asset for us. He has a great attitude and is another player joining us with the right hunger and ambition.”

The Gas are a different beast since the last time the Rams loanee was in the changing room, with a high turnover of senior players and six other signings.

Mitchell-Lawson's signing creates the exciting prospect of him playing opposite fellow summer addition Sam Nicholson in a dynamic wing pairing, as Garner vies to transform his squad into promotion contenders.

Josh Grant, Jack Baldwin, Max Ehmer, Jonah Ayunga and Zain Westbrooke have also joined this summer, and supporters will get their first glimpse of the new signings on the pitch on Saturday.
