Bristol Rovers boss Ben Garner believes move to new training ground is 'huge step forwards' for Gas

Bristol Rovers boss Ben Garner believes the move to a new training ground will be a “huge step forwards”.

The Gas announced on Thursday work at The Colony, a 28-acre site off the M5 at Almondsbury, will begin next week and it will be ready for the first-team for the start of the 2020/21 season.

Rovers have leased a training base for several years, but the lease for The Lawns at Cribbs FC expires this summer.

Rovers’ owners, the Al-Qadi family, bought The Colony site through their Dwane group in 2017, and it has sat undeveloped since, but today’s announcement is a huge boost for Garner and his players.

“This is a huge step forwards and something we have been working hard towards achieving since I joined the club,” Garner said.

“Having the right infrastructure and environment is a key part of our vision for the future.

“I am very grateful to our club president Wael Al-Qadi for this substantial investment from both a financial and a personal perspective.

“Given the current economic climate this really highlights his commitment and dedication to building a successful football club.

“A great deal of effort and hard work has also been put in by Martyn Starnes and Shaun Roberts in being able to start phase one of the development.

“We very much look forward to starting work at our new training ground.”
