Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury Town hit with fines for failing to control their players

Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury Town have both been hit with FA fines following the game against each other last month.

Rovers ran out 4-3 winners in a heated encounter courtesy of Abu Ogogo's last-gasp winner against his former club.

Yet the game was plagued with controversy, with Shrewsbury furious Louis Thompson was denied a penalty following a clumsy tackle from Alfie Kilgour.

It sparked a number of arguments, with both Rovers goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola and striker Victor Adeboyejo booked - although the Gas protested Adeboyejo's yellow, claiming the on-loan Barnsley forward had been at the other end of the pitch during the handbags.

Adeboyejo subsequently had a goal ruled out for offside, although Rovers later received an apology from the officials for this decision.

With both sides having three players booked, they were charged with failing to control their players.

Bristol Live last week revealed that Rovers had accepted this charge, and an FA statement has now confirmed this, with both sides being charged £3,500.

It said: "Shrewsbury Town FC and Bristol Rovers FC have been fined £3,500 following their fixture in the EFL League One on 23 November 2019.

"Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour and/or violent conduct in the 17th minute."

Shrewsbury already had a charge of violent conduct against defender Aaron Pierre dropped following the incident.
